PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) Director of Athletics Melody Cope announced on Tuesday the hiring of former Golden Eagle standout Mark Jensen as the new head coach of the men's volleyball program.

A member of the program's 2022 Skyline Conference Championship team and the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year that season, Jensen returns to his alma mater after establishing himself as one of Long Island's most successful young coaches at the high school and club levels.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mark back to St. Joseph's," said Cope. "As a former student-athlete, he understands the tradition and values that make this program special. His success as a coach, commitment to student-athlete development, and passion for the game make him an outstanding choice to lead our men's volleyball program. We are excited to see him build on the program's strong foundation and guide the next generation of Golden Eagles."

Jensen currently serves as the varsity boys volleyball head coach at Bay Shore High School, where he has led the program since 2022. During his tenure, he has developed multiple All-County, All-Long Island, and All-State student-athletes while helping elevate Bay Shore into one of Suffolk County's premier volleyball programs.

His efforts were recognized in 2025 when he earned both Suffolk County Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year and Newsday Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year honors.

In addition to his high school coaching responsibilities, Jensen serves as the head coach of the Academy Volleyball Club's 18U boys team, where he oversees athlete development, tournament preparation, recruiting guidance, and team management. He has helped numerous student-athletes pursue collegiate volleyball opportunities while competing at a high level on the regional and national stages.

Jensen's coaching experience also includes a stint as an assistant coach with the SUNY Cortland women's volleyball program in 2019, where he assisted with practice planning, player development, and team operations. He also played an instrumental role in establishing Bay Shore's middle school boys volleyball program, leading the team to undefeated seasons in both 2024 and 2026.

As a student-athlete at St. Joseph's, Jensen enjoyed a standout 2022 campaign. He earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year honors and helped lead the Golden Eagles to a Skyline Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. His success on the court, combined with his experience as a coach and educator, provides a unique perspective as he takes over the program he once represented as a player.

"I am incredibly grateful to St. Joseph's University and the athletic department for the opportunity to lead the men's volleyball program," said Jensen. "St. Joseph's provided me with an unforgettable student-athlete experience, and I am excited for the opportunity to help create that same experience for our players. I look forward to working with this team, building strong relationships, and continuing to develop a program that our university, alumni, and community can be proud of."

A native of Bay Shore, New York, Jensen earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland in 2019 and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Special Education at St. Joseph's University. He currently serves as a physical education teacher within the Bay Shore School District.

Jensen succeeds Bill Kropp, who retired earlier this week after guiding the Golden Eagles to unprecedented success over the past decade.
