Dettori Ties Record with Five Goals in Yeshiva Drubbing

Box Score

Patchogue, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (7-8, 5-1 SKY) shut down the Yeshiva Maccabees (0-4,  0-4 SKY) Thursday night in a 9-0 victory as John Dettori (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) scored the first five goals of the game for the Eagles and, in doing so, tied head coach Tim Trava's program record for most goals scored in a single match.

Fabio Alves (Holbrook N.Y./ Sachem East)  , Gaetano Innamorato (West Babylon N.Y./ West Babylon), Dylan Evans (Bohemia N.Y./ St. John the Baptist), and goalkeeper Chris Muhs (West Babylon N.Y./ West Babylon) each assisted on Dettori's tallies. His fifth record-breaking goal was scored off of a rebound.

St. Joseph's gained possession very early in the game and succeeded in keeping the ball on the offensive end of the field for the remainder of the match.  By the 27th minute SJC had amassed a whopping 23 shots and five goals while Yeshiva's only stat was a shot by junior Daniel Benchimol.  Seven minutes before the end of the second half, the Eagle's Anthony Rappa (West Babylon N.Y./ West Babylon) put another one in the back of the net off of an assist from Joe Alessi (Shirley N.Y./ William Floyd), putting the home team up 6-0.

The Eagles continued to dominate in the second half but Yeshiva did improve their offensive presence taking three shots before SJC freshman Andrew Stasiewicz (Mount Sinai N.Y./ Mount Sinai) scored unassisted in the 81st minute.  Alves finished the match for St. Joseph's by scoring two goals within the last five minutes of the game off of assists from George Ekstrom (Hauppauge N.Y./ Hauppauge) and Alessi, respectively.

Nearly the entire roster got in the game for SJC who, as a team, finished with a total of 46 shots including 21 on goal.  St. Joseph's aggression was also evidenced by their ten fouls to Yeshiva's two.

Eagle goalkeeper, Muhs, saved all four of Yeshiva's shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Glenmont, New York this Saturday where they will challenge the first place and regionally ranked Sage Gators (6-0, 12-1 SKY) in a Skyline Conference match at 2 p.m.
