Eagles Offense Sinks Dolphins in Skyline Action

Box Score

Patchogue, N.Y.—The Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins (2-9-1 SKY 0-8) didn't stand a chance against the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (10-9 SKY 8-1) in their Sunday afternoon Skyline Conference match.  After beginning the game a man-down due to a short squad, the Dolphins ultimately finished the game with only nine players on the field because of an injury in the second half.  This, coupled with SJC's relentlessness, led to a shutout with the Eagles taking the 8-0 victory.

St. Joseph's set the tone early in the game with a goal by John Dettori (Bay Shore, N.Y. / BayShore) at 5:47 off of an assist by Brendan O'Brien (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai). Less than seven minutes later the two connected again as Dettori's header, off of a cross by O'Brien, flew past the goalie.

Justin Heredia (Patchogue, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford) then kicked it into gear with two consecutive goals in the 16th and 17th minute, off of assists by Dettori and William Kuhlwilm (West Islip, N.Y./ West Islip), respectively.  Chris DeSimone (Medford, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford) finished off the second half by blasting a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal off of an assist from Gaetano Innamorato.

SJC continued to dominate in the second half and was able to get most of its roster into the game.  Mike Anglim (Bayport / Bayport-Blue Point) scored off of a corner kick by Innamorato at 57:03. Tim Rush (West Babylon / West Babylon) found the back of the net shortly after with a header off of an assist by Dettori.  Terrence Dzus (Central Islip, N.Y./ Islip) scored SJC's eighth and final goal in the 66th minute off of an assist by Andrew Stasiewicz (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai).

The Dolphins took their first and only shot of the game in the 67th minute but the attempt was too high and sailed over the goal.  St. Joseph's had possession of the ball for very nearly the entire match and maintained their aggression until the final buzzer, finishing with a total of 32 shots.

The Golden Eagles will next take the field on Wednesday against the SJC Brooklyn Bears.  The match that will take place at 7 p.m. at Danzi Stadium is also Senior Day for the team.
