Patchogue, N.Y. - An offensive outburst of five goals in the first eighteen minutes of the game, led St. Joseph's-Long Island's (7-11-2) women's soccer team over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (11-5) in a showcase of SJC supremacy, 6-1. 

Despite Brooklyn's ranking near the top in the NCAA's scoring statistics, the Golden Eagles proved to be a far tougher team than what the Bears are used to playing on their schedule.  Five different Golden Eagle goal scores attacked the net early in the first half, before Long Island went into ball possession mode.

In the first half, the SJC representatives from Long Island dominated, scoring three times before the end of the fifth minute.  Freshmen Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and Claire Brady (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) started off the scoring frenzy early in the game, and senior Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) capped off the 3-0 run.  Sophomore Kathryn Condron (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) assisted on LI's second and third tallies.

The offensive pressure only continued to get stronger, as Emily Dundon (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and Joann Murino (Bohemia, N.Y. / Conntequot) increased the lead to 5-0 in the 14th and 18th minutes. 

Shortly after the start of the second half, sophomore Cassandra Costarelli (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) increased the lopsided affair to a 6-0 score off a pass from freshman Megan Locke (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville).  Locke also assisted earlier on Dundon's goal.

The Bears did not have an answer for the Golden Eagles all night, and the Brooklyn campus' representatives were very quiet until a long desperation lob shot inched over the outstretched fingertips of freshman keeper Hannah Steffens (Northport, N.Y. / Smithtown Christian) with two seconds remaining.  Steffens made four saves in the contest.

This game will serve as a an offensive confidence boost for the #5 seed Eagles as they head to #4 Mount Saint Vincent to kick-off the Skyline Conference Tournament.  SJC lost in their regular season matchup to the Dolphins by just one goal earlier in October.  They will look to continue their hot streak however, and take down the Mount Saint Vincent this Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m., and advance to the semifinal round.
