New York, NY | The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team was defeated by John Jay College, 54-46, in a non-conference matchup on Monday night. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 5-12 while the Bloodhounds improve to 2-17.

St. Joseph's would get on the board first courtesy of an Andrea Iavarone jumper a minute into the game. The Golden Eagles jumped to a 6-2 lead at 6:49, but John Jay answered back with a 6-0 run to take the two-point lead (8-6). Alicia Indence was able to help SJC shorten its gap to one with a made layup to exit the quarter down 10-9.

The Bloodhounds took a 7-0 run to the 6:05 mark to start the second quarter. Down 22-13, a three-pointer by Jackie Zizzo and a made layup by Michelle Lupoli would pull the Golden Eagles within four (22-18) with under two minutes remaining in the half. Indence closed out the frame for the Golden Eagles with a made free throw to send the two sides into break.

Zizzo splashed back-to-back three-pointers to begin the third quarter to help SJC regain its lead, 25-22. In a back-and-forth battle for the lead, a layup by Shaliyah Ruiz gave John Jay its third lead of the night (29-28). The two sides exchanged baskets once more but the Bloodhounds would still come up on top 41-33.

John Jay started the final frame with a 7-3 run to take its double-digit lead (48-36) of the night at 8:01. In a series of back-and-forth baskets between the two teams, Juliana Cintron-Leonardo gave SJC its smallest deficit of the game (52-44), before falling to John Jay, 54-46.

Jackie Zizzo matched a game-high 18 points in the contest, Michelle Lupoli contributed with 10 points and four rebounds on the night. Indence finished with six points and had seven assists.
