Men's Tennis Stumbles in Skyline Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team took a 7-1 loss to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference contest at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 1-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference play as the Mariners improve to 3-0 (1-0 Skyline).

USMMA swept the doubles matches and entered singles play up 3-0. SJC's second doubles tandem of freshman Nick Bongiorno and sophomore Kenneth Pettersen fared best in an 8-6 defeat.

The Mariners picked up wins at first, second and third singles to clinch the victory, but sophomore Dylan Trude registered a consolation win at fifth singles (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, March 29 when they host the College of Staten Island for a non-conference contest at 4:30 pm.
