Men's Volleyball Drops a Pair on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matchups in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fell to Division I Sacred Heart University 3-0 before coming up short to No. 10 Arcadia University 3-1.

SJC 0, SHU 3

Set one opened with both sides playing close, but the Pioneers broke a 4-4 stalemate with four unanswered points to jump ahead 8-4. SJC chipped away getting to within one, 8-7, but the visitors pulled away building a lead as many as 10 that the Golden Eagles would not be able to overcome ultimately falling 25-15.

Set two needed extra points with the Pioneers edging SJC 27-25 before completing the sweep with a 25-22 win in the third set.

Senior Will Flohr led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and seven digs. Senior Kyle Allen-Morabito pitched in with eight kills.

Setter Jason Siriban tossed 27 assists with libero Paul Curaro picking up seven digs.

Connor Mahony led the Pioneers with 13 kills while hitting at a .448 clip. Rob Chatterton came away 10 kills and a .615 hitting percentage.

Setter Ramiro Balaguer dished 38 assists with libero Zak Kakos finishing with 16 digs.

SJC 1, AU 3

After dropping sets one and two both by a score of 25-21, the Golden Eagles held off elimination with a 25-20 win in set three. The Knights bounced back to take set four 25-19 and earn the 3-1 match win.

Allen-Morabito led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills. Flohr and Biggers pitched in with 10 kills apiece with the latter hitting at a .571 clip. 

Flohr finished with a match-best 15 digs with Curaro just behind with 14. Siriban recorded 43 assists.

The Knights were led by a double-double from Quinn Baily of 15 kills and 11 digs. Jason Manley had 14 kills with Jaron Pichler adding 13. 

Setter Anthony Devantier recorded a match-high 47 assists and libero Zayne George picked up 14 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Sunday, February 2 when they host No. 12 Elms College at 1:00 pm.
