The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's tennis team was defeated, 6-3, by Baruch College in a season-opening non-conference contest on Thursday evening.

Top performers

• Senior Joan Dabalsky and freshman Rose Ruopoli picked up an 8-2 third doubles win
• Freshmen Morgan Wind and Lorraine Podlesny registered wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively

How it happened

• Baruch claimed first and second doubles but Dabalsky and Ruopoli's win at third doubles ensured SJNY trailed by one (2-1) at the start of singles action
• Wins at first, second, third, and fourth singles clinched a 6-3 match win for the Bearcats

Notes

• Ruopoli (3rd doubles), Wind (fifth singles), and Podlesny (sixth singles) all registered wins in their collegiate debuts
• Angela Avecillas Martinez dropped the first set of her second singles match by a score of 7-5. Her opponent, Esther Benjamin, rallied for a 6-1 win in the second set
• Podlesny was dominant at sixth singles, winning 6-0, 6-1
