Results:

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's basketball team picked up a 77-44 Skyline Conference win on the road over SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday evening.

Top performers:
  • Senior Lanyah Ford dropped in a game-high 19 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field

  • Graduate Casey Travers finished with 15 points going 6-for-14 from the field and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds while adding three assists

  • Sophomore Megan Spina rounded out the top scorers with 12 points

  • Malaura Olivier led the Panthers with 14 points
     

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles opened the game with 10 unanswered points capped by a steal and a layup from Travers

  • At the 4:21 mark, three from Ford gave SJLI their largest lead of the quarter, 15-3, before the visitors closed out the frame ahead 23-14

  • As a team, the Golden Eagles shot over 63% in the second quarter while holding the Panthers to just seven points to go into the break leading 47-21

  • After a bucket from Ford opened the third, OW went on a 9-0 run to cut their deficit to 19, 49-30, with just over three minutes on the clock and went on to outscore the Golden Eagles 15-9 in the quarter

  • A triple from Rebecca Vitale at the 2:23 mark in the fourth gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the night, 77-41. The Panthers managed three free throws down the stretch as St. Joseph's went on to secure the 77-44 win

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's shot 45.2% from the field while holding OW to just 28.3%

  • The Panthers held a slight 47-46 advantage in rebounds, but the Golden Eagles outscored the hosts 52-20 in the paint

  • SJLI turned 37 OW turnovers into 38 points
