The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team fell on the short end of a 59-56 Skyline Conference contest with the University of Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Lanyah Ford led the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds while picking up three steals

How it happened:

A closely played first quarter saw both sides within four points of each other throughout with the Dolphins finishing with a slight 11-10 advantage

After an exchange of baskets opened the second frame, the hosts would maintain a slight edge over the guests before a bucket from UMSV's Ariella Johnson sent the Dolphins into the break leading 27-21

Mt. St. Vincent took their first double-digit lead, 31-21, after opening the third with back-to-back baskets from Amber Been and Villegas

Later in the frame, a three from Ford and a couple of free throws from sophomore Emma Kelly cut the deficit to just two, 38-36

The Dolphins closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 47-36 lead into the final frame

After the Dolphins opened the fourth with a layup, the Golden Eagles dropped in 10 unanswered points capped by a layup from Ford to inch within three, 49-46, with 4:20 on the clock

With just about a minute left to play, back-to-back buckets from Travers put SJLI within one, 57-56

Following a SJLI timeout, a technical foul was assessed to the visitors and UMSV's Villegas hit both free throws to give the hosts the 59-56 win
