The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team loses a heartbreaker to Farmingdale State in overtime, 86-80.
Top performers:
- Junior Xavier Allen led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 29 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists, to go along with two blocks and three steals
- Senior Spencer Malloy completed the double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds, adding three assists, three blocks and three steals
- Sophomore Justin Turner scored 14 points on 5-7 shooting from the field
- Aaron Davis of the Rams finished with a team-high 24 points, adding five assists and three steals
- FSC's Nick Hurowitz posted a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds, with two assists, two blocks and one steal
- Corey Powell and Kentrell Evans totaled 16 and 10 points, respectively
How it happened:
- Malloy provided the Golden Eagles with a spark early, scoring seven straight points as SJLI went on an 11-4 run over the first five minutes of play
- Farmingdale rallied a going on a quick 7-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the game back up at 11 apiece
- SJLI again was able to put together a run as they built their lead up by scoring eight unanswered points, with Malloy scoring five of the eight points
- St. Joseph's would try to hold off Farmingdale with a slight lead the rest of the half, but the Rams were able to tie the game with a pair of free throws before taking the lead with just one second remaining in the half on another pair of free throws
- FSC looked to pick up right where they left off in the second half as they jumped out to an early six-point lead (39-33) on back-to-back layups
- Terrin Roy would secure five straight on a fastbreak layup, followed by a three-pointer to cut the lead to just one before Farmingdale responded quickly with back-to-back layups
- As the Rams clung to a lead, the Golden Eagles Allen scored nine straight and 11 of the team's 13 points to help capture a five-point lead and first lead since the first half
- Farmingdale would cut the lead down to two points (59-57) before baskets from Malloy and Allen propelled SJLI ahead by seven with just five minutes left in regulation
- A missed three-pointer on behalf of Farmingdale State led to a St. Joseph's fast break that saw Allen find Turner from behind the arc to take their largest lead of the game (68-60)
- Two free throws for Allen claimed a seven-point lead for the Golden Eagles with 2:24 left when the Rams answered with seven straight unanswered points to tie the game at 70 with 30 seconds left
- A layup from Powell with six seconds remaining gave FSC their first lead since the 10-minute mark
- After coming out of a timeout, Allen was able to drive to the basket for a fastbreak layup to the game at 72 to force overtime
- As overtime got underway, the Golden Eagles fell behind early when Michael Notias of the Rams hit a three to take a four-point lead before SJLI's Turner responded with a three of his own to cut the lead to just one with just under 90 seconds left
- Over the final minute of play, Farmingdale was successful on 7-8 free throws while holding St. Joseph's to just two points to secure an overtime victory

- St. Joseph's finished 31-72 from the field (43.1%) and 6-18 from three-point range (33.3%)
- Farmingdale State shot 37.5% for the game and 5-20 from beyond the arc
- FSC held a 50-44 rebounding edge
