How it happened

  • Facing elimination, D'Ambrosio capped a 5-1 run for a 14-9 SJLI lead midway through set three. The hosts inched to within two, 14-12, but the next five points went in favor of the visitors creating some breathing room, 19-12, before going on to a 25-20 win

  • St. Joseph's jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage in the fourth frame, but that was quickly erased when USMMA produced an 8-0 streak to go ahead 9-6. The Golden Eagles chipped away eventually catching the Mariners at 16. The teams went point for point and found themselves knotted at 25 before kills from D'Ambrosio and Vanderhoof kept SJLI alive with a 27-25 win

  • The deciding fifth set picked up where set four left off with both sides exchanging points with USMMA holding a slight 8-7 lead when the teams switched sides. Shortly after, a 5-0 run had the Mariners at their first match-point, 14-8. The Golden Eagles managed to bring it back to 14-12, but an SJLI attack error resulted in a 15-12 win for USMMA
