Men's Basketball Competes with Stony Brook

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team competed with Stony Brook in an exhibition matchup on Saturday evening.

Top performers:

  • Alec Tabada led the Golden Eagles, scoring nine points and four rebounds
  • Justin Forest added nine points and one steal
  • Kenny Rodriguez tallied eight points, four rebounds, one assist and one block
  • AJ Esposito finished with two points, one block, and a team-high six rebounds
  • CJ Luster led the Seawolves with 30 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals while shooting 6-11 from three-point range

How it happened:

  • After Rodriguez opened the game by converting a tip-in layup, the Seawolves responded in the first eight minutes of play, scoring 13 points while holding SJLI to just three points in the first eight minutes of play
  • A jumper from Esposito and a pair of free throws from Forest cut the Stony Brook lead to just four with 11 minutes to in the half
  • Stony Brook would outscore the Golden Eagles 27-10 through the final 10 minutes in the first half to capture a 40-19 lead heading into halftime
  • Luster powered SBU through the first 10 minutes of action in the second half as the guard put together 18 of the team's 28 points to propel the Seawolves ahead by 36
  • Chris Lally and Josh Ramos would both hit three-point jump shots late for St. Joseph's as Stony Brook would finish strong down the stretch of the second half to secure the victory

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's shot 16-63 (25.4%) from the field and 16% from beyond the arc
  • Stony Brook finished 49.3% from the field and 31.3% from three-point range
  • SBU controlled the boards 53-32
