Women's Basketball Eliminated with 55-37 Loss at #1 Manhattanville

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Tournament with a 55-37 loss at top-seeded Manhattanville College on Thursday night.

Top performers:

  • Graduate Casey Travers led the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds

  • Junior Isabella Sierra added nine points all via the three-pointer while grabbing seven boards 

  • Sophomore Megan Spina rounded out the top scorers with eight points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field

  • Manhattanville's Juliana Kascic finished with a game-best 16 points shooting 6-for-12 from the floor

  • Livi Correia landed in double digits with 11 points shooting 4-for-8 from the field

How it happened:

  • Travers recorded seven of the Golden Eagles' 10 points in the first quarter as the visitors took a slight 10-8 lead into the second

  • The Valiants scored seven unanswered points midway through the second frame for a 17-12 advantage

  • A layup from Manhattanville's Gabby Tucker gave the hosts their largest lead of the half, 23-14, with two minutes on the clock

  • The Golden Eagles held the Valiants scoreless throughout the final two minutes and a pair of free throws from Knice sent the teams into the locker rooms at 23-16

  • A three from MC's Jamison Agostino to start the third quarter pushed the Valiant's lead into double figures, 26-16

  • A pair of free throws from Travers followed by a bucket moved the score 33-23 with less than a minute before a put-back by Kascic at the buzz closed out the quarter at 35-23

  • The Golden Eagles connected four times from long distance in the final frame but were outscored 20-14, ultimately falling 55-37

Notes: 

  • St. Joseph's (L.I.) shot 20.7% from the field and 12.5% from three-point range

  • Manhattanville finished shooting 38.9% from the floor and 29.4% from long distance

  • The Valiants held a slight rebound advantage 44-41

  • MC received 14 points from their bench to zero from SJLI

  • Manhattanville advances and will host #3 seed University of Mt. St. Vincent for the Championship round
