Men's Volleyball Falls to #13 NYU, 3-0

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball fell short in a non-conference contest 3-0 to #13 New York University in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers:

  • Senior Tyler Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills and 13 digs
  • Senior Mark Williams added 10 kills with six digs
  • Senior setter CJ Johnson tossed 37 assists w
  • The Violets were led by a 15-kill performance by Lucas Osiecki who added eight digs and a pair of blocks
  • Luke Boyer pitched in with 11 kills and nine digs
  • Setter Devyn Nguyen dished 43 assists 

How it happened:

  • Set one was closely played as neither side held a lead larger than two points. The Golden Eagles held off two set-point attempts by the Violets before an ace from Anderson gave the host their first opportunity. The sides exchanged points until back-to-back kills from NYU's Lucas Osiecki settled the 29-27 battle
  • The second set saw St. Joseph's leading by as many as five, 11-6, early on, but the Violets rattled off four straight points to inch within one, 11-10. After the teams traded points, NYU put up five unanswered points, 22-17, creating some distance before ultimately taking the set 25-19
  • Set three was fairly reminiscent of set one with neither side able to create any distance from the other. Tied at 24, the visitors took advantage of an SJLI attack error before a kill from Emerson Evans secured the 26-24 win

Notes:

  • As a team, Springfield hit .287 while holding St. Joseph's to .259
  • The visitors served five aces with the hosts managing two

The Golden Eagles will travel to face #7 Springfield College and Rivier University on Saturday, February 17th at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, respectively.
