Johnson Becomes Career Assists Leader in Sweep of Mt. St. Vincent

When and where:

March 23, 2024- Patchogue, NY

Results:

Senior setter CJ Johnson became the St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball all-time assists leader in a 3-0 Skyline Conference sweep against the University of Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon.

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 16-6, 11-1 Skyline; UMSV 6-10, 5-7 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Johnson finished with 17 assists on the day with three digs

  • Senior Mark Williams recorded a season-best nine service aces, matching the SJLI single-match record, while knocking down four kills

  • Sophomore Luke MacPherson had a match-high seven kills 

  • Grad. Jason Koehler and sophomore Adam Bender added five kills apiece

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles claimed set one 25-17 with MacPherson knocking down five kills and Johnson dishing 11 assists

  • In set two, Williams stood at the service line for 21 points finishing with eight aces as SJLI secured the 25-2 win

  • St. Joseph's completed the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third frame. Bender recorded all five of his kills with setter Dom Ruggiero tossing eight assists

Notes:

  • As a team, St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit .426 while UMSV finished at -.014

  • The Golden Eagles totaled 11 aces to the visitors' three and scooped up 31 digs with the Dolphins finishing with 22
