Men's Lacrosse Ends Season With Loss to UMSV on Senior Day

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team ends the season with a loss to UMSV on Senior Day.

Top performers:

  • Senior Michael Carere led the Golden Eagles with three goals, four assists, and 16 ground balls
  • Senior Connor Van Dusen recorded 15 saves, with six ground balls to set the program record for saves in a season 
  • Freshman Nick Morales totaled three goals, one ground ball, and one caused turnover
  • Freshman Mark Reyes tallied three goals
  • Issac Parsons led the Dolphins with six goals and two assists, with two ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • UMSV's Giovanni Jean-Pharun finished with two goals and two assists

How it happened:

  • The Dolphins pulled ahead early, scoring the first three goals of the game in the first five minutes of action, until Reyes found the back of the net off the pass from Carere with just under two minutes to go in the quarter
  • Mt. St. Vincent would again go on to score three unanswered to start the second quarter before Morales ended the scoring run at the six-minute mark in the second quarter
  • With UMSV scoring another goal to make the score 7-2, SJLI looked to go into halftime down five before Ryan Jean-Pharuns scored with just 13 seconds left in the half
  • To start the second half, Mt. St Vicent socred six straight through the first five minutes to take a commanding 14-2 lead 
  • Carere would end the scoring drought for the Golden Eagles as the senior sprinted down the field to score his first goal of the game
  • SJLI entered the final quarter trailing with the score 17-4, as Carere netted the first goal of the fourth quarter just 11 seconds into the final frame
  • Morales and Carere would both find the back of the net one more time in the quarter, with Reyes scoring SJLI's last three goals of the game as UMSV secured an 18-9 victory 

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's tallied 41 shots to Mt. St. Vincent's 55
  • The Dolphins collected 51 groundballs, while SJLI scooped up 39
  • Seniors Carere, Van Dusen, Connor Owenburg, and Gavin Gebhard were all honored in a pregame ceremony
