Women's Soccer Secures Second Win of Season on Wednesday

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team secured their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Ramapo.

Top performers

  • Junior Erica Urbancik netted the lone goal of the match, finishing with two shots on goal
  • Freshman Gianna Gambino totaled one assist with one-shots in 30 minutes of action
  • Junior Emily Farrington led the Golden Eagles with three shots and two shots on goal
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Alana Downey tallied two saves to earn the shutout
  • The Roadrunner's Gabby Matias finished with eight saves, allowing one goal

How it happened

  • Ramapo looked to strike early as Amber Maher found the ball at the top of the box and launched a strike into the top left corner as Downey deflected the ball for the first save of the game in the ninth minute of action
  • The Golden Eagles controlled the game early as they outpaced the Roadrunners with eight shots compared to two while also collecting six corner kicks in the half
  • With just five minutes to go in the first half, SJLI was awarded their sixth corner kick as Gambino launched the ball into the box to find the head of Urbancik to put St. Joseph's ahead by one going into the second half
  • SJLI kept applying the pressure all throughout the second half as they again outshot Ramapo 9-2 in the half but were kept off the scoreboard to solidify the 1-0 victory
