The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team swept Alvernia University, 3–0 (25–15, 25–15, 25–18), in neutral-site action on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers

  • Nina Vanderhoof led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills on .409 hitting and added two block assists.
  • Luciana D'Ambrosio recorded nine kills, two service aces, and nine digs.
  • Lauren Goss paced the offense with 32 assists while contributing 13 digs, two block assists, and an ace.
  • Sarah Montefusco anchored the back row with 13 digs and added a kill and an ace.
  • Alison Tsororos tallied four kills, two aces, and hit .333.

How it Happened

  • St. Joseph's set the tone early, jumping out to a 17–10 lead in the first before closing the set on an 8–5 run to take it, 25–15.
  • The Golden Eagles continued their efficient attack in the second frame, hitting .385 with 12 kills to win by the same 25–15 margin.
  • In the third, Alvernia kept things close early, but SJC used a mid-set surge capped by back-to-back kills from D'Ambrosio and Vanderhoof to pull away and complete the sweep, 25–18.

  • St. Joseph's served up seven aces and recorded four team blocks.
  • Alvernia committed 22 attack errors and seven service errors.
  • SJLI hit .309 as a team with 38 kills against just nine errors, while holding Alvernia to a .000 attack percentage.

How it Happened

  • The Golden Eagles traded points early in the opening set before John Jay used a 6–2 run midway through to pull ahead and take it, 25–21.
  • In the second frame, St. Joseph's held a 13–12 advantage before the Bloodhounds rallied with a 7–2 spurt to grab control and edge out the set, 25–22.
  • The third remained tight throughout, featuring nine ties and five lead changes, but John Jay closed on a 4–1 run to complete the sweep, 25–23.

  • St. Joseph's hit .141 as a team with 33 kills against 19 errors, while John Jay posted a .218 attack percentage and served up 11 aces.
