The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team (No. 3) moves onto the Skyline Conference Championship as they defeat No. 2 United States Merchant Marine Academy on the road Wednesday night.

Top Performers

  • Emily Farrington – Led the Golden Eagles with one goal, four shots, and one shot on goal.
  • Savannah Modica – Tallied her first career assist.
  • Kristin Vahle – Recorded three saves and allowed zero goals in the full 90 minutes.

How It Happened

  • The first half of the match was even for both teams, both having a strong defensive line and only having one shot each.
  • In the 17th minute, senior Emily Farrington scored the first goal for the Golden Eagles, assisted by senior Savannah Modica which set the tone for the rest of the game.
  • Early in the second half, SJLI looked to play a cross into the box. As the defender from Merchant Marine looked to clear the ball, the Mariners found themselves letting the ball into the back of their own net, giving St. Joseph's (L.I.) a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Golden Eagles continued an offensive force with 11 shots in the second half, but couldn't find a scoring oppertunity and ended the match with a 2-0 victory to move onto the championship game,

  • SJLI led in corner kicks with 5-2.
