Men's Basketball Beats Manhattanville for Fourth Straight

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team cruises past Manhattanville for their fourth straight in a 74-54 victory on Wednesday evening. 

Top performers:

  • Senior Spencer Malloy led all scorers in the game with 22 points, shooting 9-11 from the field, adding eight rebounds
  • Senior Alec Tabada finished with 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal
  • Sophomore AJ Esposito totaled 13 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block
  • Junior Justin Turner collected a game-high 13 rebounds, with six points, one steal, and one assist
  • Graduate Student Justin Forest tallied a game-high five assists

How it happened:

  • Through the first six and half minutes of play, the Golden Eagles would secure an early 10-point lead when Tabada converted a layup to make it 16-6
  • St. Joseph's would add to their lead when they outscored the Valiants 19-2 in over nine minutes of action to take a 27-point advantage (35-8) with just over four minutes to play in the first half
  • Malloy would score the final basket in the first half with just under two minutes to go, as SJLI finished the half with a 39-15 advantage
  • As the Golden Eagles held on to a significant lead over the Valiants, it was all Malloy and Tabada in the second half as the duo scored all of the team's 14 points in the first 12 minutes in the second half 
  • The Valiants cut the lead down to 16 with seven minutes to go in the game, but Esposito would score 11 of his 13 points in the final six minutes of play to keep SJLI ahead
  • St. Joseph's was to much for the Valiants as they held on to a double-digit advantage for the whole second half and secured a 74-54 victory

  • St. Joseph's shot 31-61 from the field, good for 50.8%
  • The Valiants posted a 30.2% shooting percentage overall and 29.0% from beyond the arc
  • The Golden Eagles out rebounded the Valiants 48-31
  • SJLI scored 50 points in the paint and 15 second-chance points
