The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team opened up Skyline Conference play with a pair of sweeps over SUNY Old Westbury and the University of Mt. St. Vincent in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Luke MacPherson and Hank Foglia finished with a match-bet six kills apiece. MacPherson added five kills and an ace. Foglia posted a .455 hitting percentage and a team-high four blocks

How it happened:

The Golden Eagles held a 10-5 lead early in set one but the Panthers inched back to within two, 12-10. The next four points went in favor of SJLI and they kept a good distance, claiming the 25-20 win

The hosts took an early 10-2 lead in set two, en route to a double-digit lead throughout most of the frame, eventually taking the 25-11 win. Foglia had four kills on seven attempts and recorded four blocks

An 8-0 run by Old Westbury later in set three saw the Panthers ahead 20-17. The Golden Eagles quickly tied it up at 20 and after an exchange of points, completed the sweep with a 25-23 win

The Golden Eagles hit a match-high .562 in the opening set and held the Dolphins to just nine points, 25-9. MacPherson finished with five kills with Violi pitching with two along with five digs

St. Joseph's completed its second sweep of the day with 25-16 and 25-17 wins in sets two and three, respectively
