Win Streak Extends to Ten Straight for Men's Volleyball with Sweeps of Purchase and Sarah Lawrence

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team extends its win streak to 10 straight with Skyline Conference sweeps against Purchase College and Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon.

Match One: St. Joseph's 3, Purchase 0

Top Performers:

  • Junior Luke MacPherson led all players with 13 kills on 17 attempts for a .765 hitting percentage. He added three aces and three digs

  • Freshman Cole Violi added eight kills

  • Setters Dominic Ruggiero and Will Kropp tossed 14 and 23 assists, respectively

  • Junior Adam Bender picked up a match-best six digs

  • Channing Williams of Purchase finished with a team-best 11 kills and four digs

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles hit .500 as a team in a 25-13 win in set one. Junior Hank Foglia finished with four kills on five  attempts, with MacPherson pitching in three kills on four tries

  • MacPherson added seven kills in set two, lifting St. Joseph's to a 24-14 win in set two. Kropp dished 12 assists with a pair of aces

  • Purchase trailed by just two, 16-14, in the third set, but a 5-0 run in favor of the Golden Eagles put SJLI ahead 21-14 before completing the sweep with a 25-19 win

Match Two: St. Joseph's 3, Yeshiva 0

Top Performers:

  • MacPherson knocked down a team-best eight kills while hitting at an .800 clip while collecting a match-high seven digs

  • Senior Logan Meyer totaled seven kills and picked up five digs

  • Middles AJ Esposito and Foglia recorded six kills apiece, assisting on a combined seven blocks with Foglia posting two solo blocks

  • Setters Kropp and Mason Aylward tossed 20 and 12 assists, respectively

  • Nate Davis led all players with 18 kills and Alex Xie finished with 26 assists

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles led wire to wire en route to a 25-14 win in set one. Meyer and MacPherson provided three kills apiece

  • SJLI held 10-point leads on several occasions in the second frame before taking a 2-0 match lead with a 25-16 win

  • Sophomore Declan Kerns led the Golden Eagles with four kills on seven attempts in the third set. Foglia had three kills and three blocks as SJLI finished the match with a 25-18 win 

Up next:

St. Joseph's resumes Skyline Conference action when they travel to the University of Mt. St. Vincent on Monday, March 17th at 6:00 pm.
