Men's Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Skyline Sweeps over Ramapo and Yeshiva

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team took home a pair of Skyline Conference wins with sweeps against Ramapo College and Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon.

 

Match One: St. Joseph's 3, Ramapo 0

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 7-6, 5-0 Skyline; Ramapo, 10-7, 6-2 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Junior Luke MacPherson knocked down a match-best 12 kills with three kills and two blocks

  • Graduate student Tyler Anderson finished with eight kills, five digs, and four blocks

  • Junior Hank Foglia had a match-high five blocks with six kills 

  • Senior Logan Meyer recorded seven kills with a match-best seven digs

  • Setter Will Kropp dished 28 assists and five digs

  • Brady Cascone of Ramapo finished with 11 kills and four digs

How it happened:

  • The two sides were close throughout set one, a kill from MacPherson knotted the score at 25. The next point went to Ramapo, but three straight points in favor of the Golden Eagles for a 28-26 win

  • Neither side held a lead larger than four in set two until SJLI rattled off four unanswered points to end the frame with a 25-20 win

  • Set three favored the Golden Eagles throughout building a double-digit lead, 21-11, before going on to complete the sweep with a 25-17 win

 

Match Two: St. Joseph's 3, Yeshiva 0

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 8-6, 6-0 Skyline; Yeshiva, 1-13, 0-6 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Freshman Bryan Frascogna finished with a match-best nine kills with four digs and two aces

  • Sophomores Dylan Palmer and Declan Kerns totaled six kills apiece with the latter collecting a team-high seven digs

  • Setters Dominic Ruggiero and Mason Alyward tossed 23 and 18 assists, respectively

  • Yeshiva was led by Jonathan Werta with six kills and Amiti Tabelsi finished with 13 assists

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles capped the first set on a 9-1 run en route to a 25-13 win. Sophomore Jesse Renniesen led with five kills and Kerns pitched in with four

  • A 25-19 win in set two extended SJLI's match lead to 2-0. Freshman Matthew Ostroski had four kills and Aylward finished with 14 assists

  • St. Joseph's held a double-figure lead throughout most of the third set, finishing the sweep with a 25-15 win. Frascogna totaled six kills and Ruggiero dished 11 assists

St. Joseph's resumes Skyline Conference play when they host Ramapo College in the Danzi Center on Tuesday, March 11th at 7:00 pm.
