Men's Lacrosse Falls Short to UMSV

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse comes up short to Mount Saint Vincent, 14-10, on Wednesday night.

Top performers:

  • Junior Caden Stubba led the Golden Eagles with four goals, four ground balls, and one caused turnover.
  • Senior Anthony Herrera recorded three goals for SJLI.
  • Junior Najee Henderson collected two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Ryan Schildt totaled one goal, three assists, and six ground balls.
  • Freshman goalkeeper John Marino tallied 13 saves and two ground balls.

How it happened:

  • Mount Saint Vincent opened the first quarter with scoring the first goal of the game. St. Joseph's responded with Stubba netting the first goal for the Golden Eagles.
  • The Dolphins recorded two goals after to end the first quarter 3-1.
  • Stubba started the second quarter with a man-up goal to make in a close game, then UMSV scored three goals back-to-back to further themselves.
  • Herrera netted two man-up goals and Stubba added a third, but Mount Saint Vincent took the lead after two goals scored to end the half 8-5.
  • The Golden Eagles led offensively in the third quarter, with goals from Stubba, Schildt, and Henderson, compared to the two goals made by the Dolphins, but the visitors had the 10-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
  • UMSV went on a 4-2 scoring lead in the fourth quarter to take the close 14-10 conference victory.

Notes:

  • The Dolphins held a 54-36 ground ball advantage.
  • UMSV won 16 face offs compared to SJLI's 11.
  • Mount Saint Vincent recorded 13 caused turnovers to St. Joseph's eight.
