Men's Lacrosse Ends Season With Loss to Manhattanville on Senior Day

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse falls to Manhattanville, 17-7, in the season finale on senior day on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

  • Senior Anthony Herrera led the Golden Eagles with three goals and two ground balls.
  • Junior Matt Cioffi totaled two goals and two ground balls.
  • Junior Caden Stubba collected one goal, two assists, one ground ball, and two caused turnover.
  • Junior Najee Henderson and freshman Ryan Schildt both recorded two assists and three ground balls.
  • Sophomore Luke Doucet accumulated one assist.
  • Sophomore Zack Watson tallied 16 saves, nine ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

How it happened:

  • Manhattanville opened the first quarter with scoring the first goal of the game, two minutes later St. Joseph's scored their first goal to tie the game 1-1.
  • The Valiants then scored three goals compared to the Golden Eagles's one to take the 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Manhattanville netted four goals to extend their lead 8-2 at the end of the half.
  • Herrera found the back of the net twice and Cioffi netted one during the third quarter to help bring SJLI back, but the Valiants scored six goals to continue their 14-5 lead.
  • Manhattanville continued their run scoring first in the fourth, which Herrera answered, but the Valiants then scored two goals.
  • Despite Stubba's goal at one minute, Manhattanville took the 17-7 win.
