Director of Athletics Melody Cope announced in July of 2022 the appointment of AJ Uhl as St. Joseph's University, New York - Long Island's new men's basketball head coach.

Uhl arrived in Patchogue after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Waynesburg University where he was responsible for all recruiting of prospective student-athletes. During his tenure, the Yellow Jackets posted its best season since 2015 while reaching the PAC Tournament Semifinals.

Prior to Waynesburg, Uhl had stints at Cal Lutheran University (2017-19) and Centenary University (2016-17) both as an assistant coach.

No stranger to the Skyline Conference, Uhl graduated from Mt. St. Mary College in 2014 with a B.S. in Communications and Journalism. As a member of the Knights, he was part of a 2012 team that won the ECAC Championship and led the team in three-point shooting percentage during the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons.

A Long Island native, he graduated from Comsewogue High School where he was a four-year varsity player and a 1,000-point scorer en route to becoming an All-Section XI selection.
