Patchogue, NY| Director of Athletics Melody Cope announced on August 15, 2024, the appointment of Matt Knote as the head coach of the St. Joseph's University, New York – Long Island men's lacrosse team.
Knote joins the Golden Eagles following an impressive collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he served as captain of the men's lacrosse team in 2023 and 2024. During his tenure, the four-time All-Conference First-Team recipient and two-time All-American was recognized as one of the top players in the country, earning the prestigious Inside Lacrosse Top 50 player distinction, and was named the 2023 and 2024 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. In the 2023 season, Knote was the NCAA statistical champion for save percentage and finished in the top-25 NCAA all time saves for career.
"We are thrilled to welcome Matt to St. Joseph's," stated Cope. "His lacrosse background coupled with his passion for the game make him the perfect fit for our men's lacrosse program. We look forward to seeing his impact on our student-athletes and the team's future."
Following his career at UMASS, Knote signed on to play professionally for the California Redwoods in the Premier Lacrosse League, now currently playing for the Maryland Whipsnakes. In addition to competing, Knote is the director for the TRUE Long Island East Club lacrosse program, where he provides instruction to local Suffolk County kids and looks to build lacrosse on the east end.

Knote, a two-time USILA Scholar All-American, earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and a Master of Science in Business Analytics from UMASS.
