The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a 62-50 loss to Connecticut College in a non-conference match-up at the Danzi Center on Friday afternoon.
Top performers:
- The Golden Eagles were led by Graduate Casey Travers, who recorded a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists
- Senior Lanyah Ford finished with double-digit points, scoring 12 points with seven rebounds
- Sophomore Emma Kelly led all players with five assists, while Graduate Julianna Knice and Junior Isabella Sierra each added three steals
- Addi Hunter paced Connecticut College with a 20-point performance, and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double
- Rebecca Oberman-Levine recorded a double-double of her own, scoring 13 points with 10 rebounds
How it happened:
- After Connecticut College scored the game's first points, Ford hit a three to begin a 7-2 run for the Golden Eagles, with another three for Ford putting the hosts up 7-4 at the 7:24 mark
- With the game tied at 13 with 2:36 remaining, the Camels scored the final six points of the quarter, with Hunter's three-point play extending the visitors' lead to 19-13 to finish the quarter
- The visitors scored six of the first nine points of the second quarter and led by nine (25-16) at the 5:46 mark
- Ten seconds later, Travers' second three of the quarter trimmed the deficit to six (25-19), before the Camels went on a 6-0 run to take a lead of 12, then finished the half up by 10 (31-21)
- Connecticut College began the third quarter with a 7-3 run, with Hunter scoring six of those points for the visitors, to increase their lead to 14 (38-24) at the 6:35 mark
- After each team exchanged baskets twice, the Golden Eagles finished the quarter strong, out-scoring the Camels 9-4 in the final three minutes of the frame
- Travers' three with 1:08 remaining cut the deficit to single digits, before the Golden Eagles went into the final quarter trailing by nine (46-37)
- Connecticut College scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, then Travers made a three-pointer to trim the lead to eight (48-40) with 8:26 on the clock
- The Camels' Avery Burns responded with a three of her own 20 seconds later, then a pair of baskets for Ford brought the hosts within seven (51-44) at the 6:07 mark
- The visitors went back up by 11, then St. Joseph's scored six consecutive points to cut the deficit to five (55-50) with 2:04 remaining
- Connecticut College proceeded to score seven straight points, including five free-throws, in the final two minutes to secure a 62-50 win
