The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team picked up a 65-28 win over SUNY Old Westbury in a conference match-up at the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.
Top performers:
- Graduate Casey Travers led all players with 20 points and led the Golden Eagles with 10 rebounds for a double-double while adding five assists
- Graduate Julianna Knice scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and contributed five assists
- Junior Felicia Barreiros shot 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and added nine points and four steals, while senior Lanyah Ford scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds
- Phalan Smith recorded a double-double for Old Westbury, scoring 10 points and adding 12 rebounds
- Allysha Thomas led all players with 15 rebounds
How it happened:
- After Old Westbury scored the first pair of points to start the game, the Golden Eagles went on a 11-2 run to take an 11-4 lead on a three for Travers at the 5:54 mark
- St. Joseph's continued to extend their lead, as they proceeded to go on a 10-2 run to finish the quarter, with senior Catherine Siounis' buzzer-beater from about half court extending the lead to 21-7
- Barreiros scored the first six points for the Golden Eagles in the second quarter, as she made a pair of three-point shots to increase the lead to 27-11
- Knice's three at the 4:54 mark gave SJLI a lead of 21 (34-13), then Travers made a three of her own about a minute later to cap a 10-0 scoring run for St. Joseph's, before they went into the break ahead by 24 (39-15)
- The Golden Eagles scored 10 of the first 12 points of the third quarter, with Ford's layup at the 7:07 mark giving SJLI a lead of 32 (49-17)
- St. Joseph's finished the quarter with a lead of 56-23 after a three for Barreiros capped the scoring of the third
- Junior Isabella Sierra scored the first points of the fourth quarter at the 4:58 mark, as the hosts put together their biggest scoring run of the game, scoring 11 straight beginning at the 0:37 mark in the third quarter
- Freshman Norah Williams' basket with 2:44 remaining completed the 11-0 run, which also gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the game of 40 points (63-23)
- The Panthers were limited to five points in the fourth quarter on 5-for-8 shooting on free throws, as St. Joseph's came away with a 65-28 win

- SUNY Old Westbury was limited to a 16.9% shooting percentage from the floor and 5.6% from beyond the arc
