The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped a 67-57 Skyline Conference contest at Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles started the game with their best scoring run of the day jumping out to a 9-0 lead
  • The Knights chipped away and a three from Shannon Phelan gave the hosts their first lead of the day, 16-14, with just under two minutes left in the first quarter
  • Ford responded with five straight points before a bucket from Angelina Donato closed the quarter bringing MSMC to within one, 19-18
  • The second frame saw the two sides tied at 23 with 7:45 on the clock, but six unanswered points put the Golden Eagles ahead 29-23
  • MSMC would inch to with two on a couple of occasions, but a layup from junior Felicia Barrerios in the final seconds sent the Golden Eagles to break leading 34-30
  • Despite SJLI being first to score in the third quarter, the Knights caught up to the visitors at 38 at the 6:30 mark
  • A minute later, a layup from Guglielmo put Mt. St. Mary ahead 41-40 and the Knights would carry a lead throughout the quarter and went into the fourth leading 48-44
  • St. Joseph's opened the final frame with a 6-0 run, but their lead was short-lived when a pair of free throws from Guglielmo put the teams at a 52-52 stalemate with six minutes remaining
  • Nine straight points went in favor of the Knights and they would go on to secure the 67-57 win
