On Tuesday evening, the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team falls to St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 80-73.
Top performers:
- Junior Xavier Allen led the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 29 points and 10 assists, adding two assists and one steal
- Senior Spencer Malloy finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four assists
- Senior Terrin Roy went 4-10 from three-point range, totaling 12 points to go along with six rebounds, one assist, and two blocks
- Junior Alec Tabada posted 12 points, seven rebounds and one assist
- Stephen Dierny led the Bears in scoring with 16 points off the bench, grabbing seven reboundsÂ
- St. Joseph's Brooklyn Adam Jasaraj scored 13 points on 5-7 shooting from the field
- Evan Sirakis tallied 10 points, adding a game-high nine assists and four steals
How it happened:
- The Golden Eagles were able to jump ahead by five points in the first five minutes of action thanks to back-to-back threes from Roy followed by a Justin Turner jump shotÂ
- St. Joseph's Brooklyn was able to cut the lead and, just five minutes later, took a two-point lead of their own before Allen tied the game at 18 with just over 10 minutes of play in the first half
- The Bears proceeded to go on a 10-2 run as Dierny scored six points of the Bear's 10 points to help take an eight-point lead
- A three-pointer from Chris Tracy allowed SJBK to take their largest lead of the game up to this point of 10 points with just 43 seconds remaining in the first half, but a Malloy layup for SJLI cut the lead back to eight entering half
- As Malloy started the second half with a quick two points, Jasaraj answered, scoring five straight points to build the lead up to 11
- Just two minutes later, the Golden Eagles cut the lead to just three points, going on an 8-0 run (39-42)
- The Bears answered with a run of their own of 18-8, taking their largest lead of the game of 13 points (60-47) with just eight minutes left in the game
- SJLI did everything to cut the lead, finally getting the lead down to just six points with just 26 seconds left, but clutch free throws from Sirakis and Jonathon Reno secured the victory for the Bears
