The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team season ends in the Quarterfinals of the Skyline Conference Championship in an 89-64 loss to Farmingdale St. on Tuesday evening.
Top performers:
- Junior Xavier Allen led the Golden Eagles with 20 points and eight rebounds, to go along with two assists and one steal
- Junior Alec Tabada finished with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one block
- Senior Spencer Malloy added 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and a game-high three blocks
- Nick Hurowitz led the Rams with a game-high 31 points and four steals while accumulating seven rebounds and two assistsÂ
- Farmingdale's Corey Powell posted a double-double with 12 points, and 10 rebounds with three assists
- Aaron Davis provided the Rams with 12 points, three rebounds, four assists, and one steal
How it happened:
- The game opened with both teams trading baskets early as a three from Jevon Santos of the Rams tied the game at nine apiece until Kenny Rodriguez answered with a three of his own to pull ahead by three once again
- The Rams responded with an 11-0 run, with Hurowitz scoring seven of the team's 11 points on the run to take a 20-12 lead with 13 minutes left in the first halfÂ
- St. Joseph's found a spark in their offense as they answered back with an 11-4 scoring run where Allen and Thomas Bell hit back-to-back threes, followed by an Allen fast break and-one layup that saw the guard covert at the line
- On the very next possession, Hurowtiz would capitalize on a jump shot to pull FSC ahead by three (26-23) when Terrin Roy answered back with a three to tie the game with eight minutes left in the half
- Farmingdale St. would close out the first half outscoring SJLI 20-8, taking a commanding 12-point lead into the half Â
- Hurowitz opened the second half with back-to-back threes to build the Rams lead (52-34) before Allen ended the scoring drought with a three of his own
- The Ram's Hurowitz was able to score 14 of the team's first 16 points in the second half to pull ahead by 25 points with 15 minutes left of action
- As the Golden Eagles looked to get back into the game, Farmingdale St. did not let their lead drop below 20 points for the remainder of the match as FSC secured a victory
