The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team dropped their first Skyline Conference match in over three seasons, 3-2 to New Jersey City University in the Danzi Center on Wednesday night.

Senior Mark Williams led all players with 22 kills while adding a match-best three service aces

NJCU's Marcus Pardasie finished with 19 kills and 10 digs with Brandon DiSIlva pitching in with 17 kills and a match-high nine blocks
How it happened:

The Golden Eagles led early in set one before NJCU broke a 10-10 stalemate with three consecutive points, 13-10, and held a slight lead until a 6-0 run by the Golden Eagles put the hosts back ahead 23-20. The visitors brought it back to within one, 23-22, but a kill and an ace from Williams secured the 25-22 win

Set two was knotted at 14 but the Gothic Knights started to pull away before a kill from Pardasie set up their first set point at 24-18. The Golden Eagles spoiled three opportunities for NJCU, but the visitors held on for the 25-21 win to eleven the match at 1

The third frame was played closely with a 4-0 run providing a bit of distance for the Golden Eagles, 14-10. The teams stayed within four points of each other down the stretch before a kill from Williams and an ace from Chris Sarnicola gave SJLI the 25-22 win swinging the match in favor of the hosts, 2-1

NJCU led wire-to-wire in the fourth ultimately taking set 25-20 and pushing the match to a decisive fifth set

The teams exchanged points to start the fifth set with the Golden Eagles holding a slight 8-7 lead when they switched sides. The next three points went in favor of the Gothic Knights and despite the Golden Eagles inching to within one, 10-11, NJCU managed to hold on for a 15-11 set win and claim the match 3-2
