Men's Volleyball Falls at #18 New Paltz, 3-0

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team fell short at #18 SUNY New Paltz, 3-0, on Friday evening.

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 12-6; SUNY New Paltz, 16-9

Top Performers:

  • Senior Mark Williams the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and added seven digs

  • Sophomore Luke MacPherson pitched in with eight kills

  • Senior Tyler Anderson added seven kills and six digs 

  • Setter CJ Johnson tossed 26 assists, five kills, six digs

  • New Paltz's Pat Wing finished with a match-best 24 kills and 13 digs with setter Daniel Shanley dishing 43 assists

How it happened:

  • After trailing 10-5 early in set one, the Golden Eagles chipped away, eventually tying the score at 15. Following an exchange of points, the Hawks broke an 18-18 stalemate with three straight points en route to a 25-21 set one win

  • Set two saw the Hawks leading throughout taking a 25-18 win. The hosts finished with 17 kills in the frame to the guest's six

  • A closely played third set didn't see a lead larger than three. Despite two set point opportunities, the Golden Eagles were unable to put the frame away and managed to complete the sweep with a 27-25 win

Notes:

  • As a team, St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit .202 while New Paltz finished at .308

  • The visitors scooped up 40 digs with the hosts finishing with 45 and held a slight 6-5 total blocks advantage

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline Conference action when they travel to take on SUNY Old Westbury and SUNY Purchase on Saturday, March 16th at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.
