Men's Volleyball Sweeps Old Westbury and Purchase

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team fell short at #18 SUNY New Paltz, 3-0, on Friday evening.

Match One: St. Joseph's 3, Sarah Lawrence 0

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 13-6, 8-1 Skyline; SUNY Old Westbury 1-11, 1-6 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Sophomore Logan Meyer led all players with 10 kills while hitting at a .660 clip with a match-best eighth service aces and six digs

  • Freshman Declan Kerns added five kills and five digs

  • Sophomore Adam Bender and freshman Alex Ksiasek added four kills apiece

  • Setter Dominic Ruggiero tossed 26 assists

  • Old Westbury's Anthony Moyett finished with a team-best five kills and five digs with setter Kyle Singh-Gajadar dishing six assists

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles limited the Panthers to just four kills in set one while hitting .464 as a team and breezed to a 25-10 win

  • St. Joseph's held Old Westbury to single digits in both sets two and three, 25-9, 25-9, to secure that 3-0 sweep

Match Two: St. Joseph's 3, SUNY Purchase 0

Top Performers:

  • Tyler Anderson, Jason Koehler, and Mark Williams led the Golden Eagles with seven kills apiece

  • Adam Bender knocked down six kills in seven chances

  • Setter CJ Johnson tossed 31 assists with three digs

  • Tyler Ryan led the Panthers with seven kills 

  • Setters Aidan Araza and Mauricio Ramirez dished 11 and six kills, respectively

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles limited the Panthers to just seven points, 25-7, in the opening frame. Williams led the attack converting five kills out of five chances 

  • Anderson and Umberto Piscitelli both finished with four kills in the 25-10 win in set two

  • All six of Bender's kills came in the 25-15 set three win
