Men's Volleyball Set to Defend Skyline Title with Semifinal Sweep of Purchase

The top-seeded St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team advances to the Skyline Conference Final match with a 3-0 sweep of #4 SUNY Purchase in the semifinal round in the Danzi Center on Thursday evening

Records:

Top Performers:

  • Senior Mark Williams finished with a match-best 15 kills with a .542 hitting percentage while adding four service aces and four digs

  • Sophomore Luke MacPherson pitched in with nine kills in 12 attempts with four digs, two aces, and two blocks

  • Senior Setter CJ Johnson recorded a match-best 36 assists and six digs

How it happened:

  • Purchase stayed close early in set one, but the Golden Eagles created some distance midway through when a kill from Williams gave the hosts a 17-10 lead before securing the 25-14 win. Williams knocked down four kills with Johnson tossing 10 assists

  • St. Joseph's led wire-to-wire in set two behind eight kills from Williams and four from MacPherson to claim a 25-16 win

  • SJLI completed the sweep with a 25-8 win in the third set hitting .474 as a team with Johnson spreading out his 10 assists to five different Golden Eagles

Notes:

  • As a team, St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit .452 while Purchase finished at .054

  • Defensively, the Golden Eagles picked up 29 digs with PC totaling 20 while recording seven total blocks to the Panthers' two
