Junior Jack Kelly's complete game shutout advanced the top-seeded St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team to the final round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. The Golden Eagles came away with a 10-0 win against the #2 U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Gregg Afano Field on Saturday evening.Â

How it happened:

A sac fly from Rob Page in the bottom of the second opened the scoring before the hosts strung together five hits for four runs and a 5-0 lead

The Golden Eagles rallied with two outs for two runs in the bottom of the third before a double steal added another in the fourth pushing their advantage to 8-0

In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Joe Hackal singled to center scoring senior Joe Sanguedolce who walked to start the inning made his way to third when the ball got by USMMA's center fielder. A few pitches later a wild pitch sent Hackal home for the final run of the game

Kelly retired the Mariners in order in the eighth and stranded a lead off single in the ninth securing the 10-0 winÂ
Next up, the Golden Eagles will face #4 Farmingdale St. for the title on Sunday, May 12th at Gregg Alfano Field. St. Joseph's will have beat the Rams twice with FSC needing just one win. First pitch is set for 11:00 am.
