Women's Volleyball Starts Skyline Play with Sweep of Yeshiva

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team opened up Skyline Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Yeshiva University in the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon.

Top Performers
  • Senior Jackie Wolf led all players with a match-high eight kills while hitting at a .667 clip and added four aces

  • Sophomore Nina Vanderhoof knocked down seven kills out of 11 attempts

  • Junior Luciana D'Ambrosio recorded four kills with a match-best six service aces

  • Libero Sarah Montefusco picked up a team-best five digs

  • Setter Katie D'Angelo dished 26 assists and served five aces

How it happened
  • The Golden Eagles grabbed an early match lead with a 25-6 six win in the opening frame. As a team, they hit .571 converting 12 kills on 21 attempts. Wolf finished with four kills with the middles Vanderhoof and Deirdre Carney both adding three

  • Set two saw the hosts fall behind early trailing by as many as seven, 8-1. SJLI inched back to knot the score at 9-9, but the Maccabees regained the advantage building an 18-12 lead. A couple of SJLI substitutions landed D'Ambrosio at the service line that saw 10 points go in favor of the Golden Eagles including six aces for a 23-18 lead in favor of the hosts. A few points later a kill from D'Ambrosio secured the 25-19 win and 2-0 match lead

  • St. Joesph's returned to set one form for the final frame cruising to a 25-6 win to secure the sweep

  • The Golden Eagles hit at a .321 clip with the Maccabees finishing at -.089

  • St. Joseph's served 20 aces to Yeshiva's four
