Women's Volleyball Drops a Pair of Non–Conference matchups

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches to Salve Regina University, 3-0, and Plymouth State University, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

  • Senior Jackie Wolf led the Golden Eagles with six kills and six digs
  • Junior Luciana D'Ambrioso finished with five kills and four digs
  • Graduate Katie D'Angelo added three assists and a team-high 13 digs
  • Sophomore Nina Vanderhoof tallied five kills, one service ace, and two digs
How it happened
  • After trailing early by as much as seven points, the Golden Eagles fought back to cut the lead to just three (15-12), but the Seahawks rallied to take the first set 25-16
  • St. Joseph's (L.I.) took their first lead in the second set, holding a 6-5 advantage, but Slave Regina again took back their lead and secured the second set 25-19
  • SJLI scored the first three points in the third set and built an early lead (6-3) that led to holding a 17-16 advantage
  • The Seahawks would then score seven unanswered points to take a 23-17 lead. The Golden Eagles would rally back to close the gap (23-21), but Salve Regina would take the final set 25-23

  • Vanderhoof led the Golden Eagles with 12 kills and three digs
  • D'Angelo tossed 28 assists, 11 digs, one kill, and one block solo

How it happened
  • The Panthers built an impressive lead in the first set (19-6), which allowed Plymouth to take home set one 25-10
  • The first set saw the Golden Eagles build an early 11-6 lead in set two before the Panthers rallied back to take the lead 13-12
  • As set two continued on a close-fought set saw, SJLI pull ahead late to take set two (25-23), and tie the match at one set a piece
  • Set three would see a stalemate between both teams tied at 16 each before Plymouth St. 9-4 scoring run to take set three (25-20)
  • The Panthers built an early 12-4 lead in set four, which allowed Plymouth to secure the match with a 25-12 score in set four
