Women's Basketball Takes Down Yeshiva on the Road

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.)  women's basketball team bounced back with a Skyline Conference win over Yeshiva University, 67-46, on Wednesday evening.

Top performers:

  • Senior Isabella Sierra led the Golden Eagles with 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting while adding eight rebounds and three steals

  • Graduate Student Charlotte Twohig pitched in with 15 points and five assists

  • Junior Megan Spina rounded out the top scorers with 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds

  • Yeshiva's Daniella Bessler scored a team-high 15 points completing a double-double with 10 boards

How it happened:

  • Tied at four, Emma Kelly sparked a 7-0 run with a three book ended with another three from Twohig

  • The Maccabees inched back to within two, 11-9, with under two minutes left in the quarter

  • Felicia Barreiros dropped in a layup with less than 30 seconds on the clock, but YU's Sai Rahamim hit from long distance in the final seconds ending the frame with SJLI leading by just one, 13-12

  • The Golden Eagles outscored the Maccabees 25-4 in the second quarter. Sierra led St. Joseph's with nine points with Spina and Twohig adding five points apiece sending the Golden Eagles into the break ahead 38-16

  • The third frame was played evenly until the final three minutes when Yeshiva ended the quarter with seven unanswered points cutting their deficit to 49-35

  • SJLI put together a 7-0 run midway through the final frame taking a 58-40 lead

  • Minutes later, a jumper from Sarah Hansen pushed the lead to 22, 66-44, before the Golden Eagles came away with the 67-46 win
     

Notes: 

  • St. Joseph's shot 35.3% from the field and 22.7% from three-point territory

  • The Maccabees posted a 29.2% shooting percentage overall and 37.5% from three-point range

  • SJLI held the advantage in rebounds (48-34), assists (14-12), and points in the paint (28-8)

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center on Saturday, January 25 when they host St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn for a conference match-up at 12:00 pm.
