Springfield Sweeps Men's Volleyball on Saturday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team fell short against Springfield College in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon. The Pride came away with the sweep taking 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 wins in straight sets.

Top Performers:

  • Junior Luke MacPherson led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills while collecting five digs

  • Setter Will Kropp tossed 22 assists 

  • Libero Dominic Ruggiero picked up a team-best seven digs

  • Carter Durivage of Springfield led all players with 18 kills while hitting at a .615 clip

How it happened:

  • A 14-4 run in favor of the Golden Eagles turned a 6-6 stalemate into a 20-10 advantage for the visitors. SJLI claimed the set 25-14 and an early match lead. Piscitelli and MacPherson finished with five and four kills, respectively

  • St. Joseph's held a slight 7-4 lead early on set two before they built momentum through the middle portion of the frame hitting the 20-point mark first at 20-13. A MacPherson block finished the Raptors in set two, 25-17

  • The Golden Eagles led the final frame wire-to-wire hitting .455 as a team while holding Bard to single digits, 25-9, completing the sweep

Notes:

  • As a team, St. Joseph's (L.I.) posted a .224 hitting percentage while Springfield finished at .467

  • The Golden Eagles served just two aces with the Pride finished with an impressive 10

  • The visitors collected 40 digs and put up four total blocks with the hosts finishing with just 17 digs and two blocks
