Women's Basketball Dominates at Farmingdale, 62-29

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team opened up the new year with a 62-29 Skyline Conference win at Farmingdale State College on Tuesday evening.

Top performers:

  • Graduate student Charlotte Twohig led all players with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor while grabbing five rebounds and posting a team-best four steals

  • Freshman Madelyn Barone finished with 13 points going 6-for-8 from the field 

  • Senior Felicia Barreiros finished in double figures with 11 points finishing 6-for-6 at the free throw line

  • Alexandria Walbroehi paced Farmingdale with 11 points while recording seven rebounds

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles limited the Rams to just six points while knocking down 20 in the opening frame 

  • The first seven points of the second quarter went in favor of St. Joseph's before FSC's Olivia Hoffman hit from long distance, 27-9

  • A three from Twohig put the visitors ahead by 21, 30-9, with just over four minutes left in the half, but the hosts responded with five unanswered, 30-14

  • The sides exchanged buckets down the stretch before SJLI's Barreiros closed out the half with a pair of free throws sending the Golden Eagles into the break ahead 38-18

  • St. Joseph's started the third quarter with an 11-0 run through six minutes while the Rams went 0-for-9 before FSC's Shyann Parker's layup ended the drought

  • Both sides combined for just five points through the final four minutes of the quarter with the Golden Eagles leading 52-22

  • The fourth quarter went scoreless for nearly three minutes before Emma Kelly dished to Barreiros for a three

  • Back-to-back layups from Isabella Sierra followed extending the lead to 59-22

  • Minutes later, a jumper from SJLI's Isabelle Lebron gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the night, 62-24 before going to claim the victory 62-29

Notes: 

  • St. Joseph's shot 40.7% from the field and 23.8% from three-point range

  • Farmingdale was held to a 14.5% shooting percentage overall and shot just 5.6% from beyond the arc

  • The Golden Eagles finished with 28 points in the paint to the Rams eight

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline Conference action when they host Purchase College on Friday, January 10th at 4:00 pm.
