Men's Soccer Returns to the Skyline Conference Championship

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's soccer team (No. 3) will return back to the Skyline Conference Championship after their victory against No. 2 United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night.

How It Happened

  • St. Joseph's- L.I. started the first half strong by sophomore Jack Pulisic scoring in the first five minutes of the half.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth with offensive opportunities, but it wasn't until 29:12 where sophomore Devin Seara found the back of the net, assisted by senior Sean Gordon and freshman Liam Mehmel, who recorded his first career assist.
  • The intensity of the match grew toward the end of the first and the beginning of the second half when Merchant Marine fought back and scored their first goal of the game in the 51st minute.
  • The Mariners continued their offensive presences, but with the help from freshman Dean Burchard in goal and the Golden Eagle's defense, SJLI secured the 2-1 victory in the end to move onto the championship match.

  • SJLI led in corner kicks with 5-4.
  • The Mariner's goalkeeper recorded three saves.
