The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team fell short in a Skyline Conference match-up at Manhattanville University on Tuesday evening. The Valiants came away with the 53-43 win.

Junior Megan Spina led the Golden Eagles with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. The guard added three steals and a pair of assists

How it happened:

The Golden Eagles held a lead through most of the first quarter. Spina dished to Sierra who dropped in a three at the 3:32 mark giving the visitors their largest advantage of the night, 9-5

Manhattanville followed with six unanswered points, but a three from Spina just before the buzzer sent SJLI into the second frame ahead 12-11

The score remained tight with the advantage remaining in favor of the Golden Eagles until a layup from Kathleen O'Mara followed by a pair of free throws from Esther Ramos gave the Valiants their first lead of the quarter, 23-22, with 2:20 on the clock

A layup from MU's Niyona Smith capped the scoring in the first half sending the hosts into the break ahead 25-22

Manhattanville outscored the Golden Eagles 17-7 in the third for a 42-29 lead with one quarter left

Back-to-back threes from Charlotte Twohig and Spina brought the deficit to single digits, 46-38 with 4:23 left to play

A 7-0 Manhattanville run put the Valiants ahead 53-38 with just over a minute on the clock before securing the 53-43 win
