Spina's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball to 53-45 Win at Purchase

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team came away with a 53-45 Skyline Conference win from Purchase College on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

  • Junior Megan Spina led the Golden Eagles with her second-straight double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds with five steals

  • Junior Gabriella Andreacchi finished with nine points and nine boards

  • Senior Felicia Barreiros pitched in with eight points, four rebounds, and two steals

  • Purchase's Charlee Neb provided a game-high 15 points with eight rebounds and three assists

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles held the Panthers scoreless through the first eight minutes of play before Carlye Graff hit a three at the 1:45 mark, 6-3

  • A couple of free throws from Emma Kelly capped the scoring in the first quarter with SJLI leading 10-5

  • Purchase caught up to the Golden Eagles with 7:35 on the clock in the second quarter, 12-12

  • The Golden Eagles briefly fell behind midway through the frame, 15-14, but out-scored the Panthers 14-4 through the second portion of the quarter taking a 28-19 lead into the break

  • St. Joseph's held a double-digit lead through the majority of the third quarter outscoring Purchase 16-10

  • Spina finished with five points with Andreacchi adding four in the frame

  • The SJLI lead ballooned to 16, 46-30, following a layup from Madelyn Barone at the 6:51 mark in the fourth quarter

  • The Panthers cut the deficit to single digits, 51-42, in the final minute, but the Golden Eagles held on for the 53-45 win

Notes: 

  • SJLI shot 25.0% from the field and 11.5% from three-point territory

  • The Panthers posted a 29.2 shooting percentage overall and 28.0% from three-point range

  • The Golden Eagles dominated the paint outscoring Purchase 22-8 with their bench providing 17 points to PC's seven

The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 22nd when they host Farmingdale State College at 1:00 pm.
