Results:
The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a 56-51 loss to Farmingdale State College on Senior Day at the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.
Top performers:
- Junior Megan Spina led the Golden Eagles with 18 points on 6-for-16 shooting from the field and went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line, while adding eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks
- Senior Felicia Barreiros scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds
- Junior Emma Kelly grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and added two assists, while Graduate Student Charlotte Twohig collected a team-high four steals
- Erin Conte scored a game-high 19 points for Farmingdale State and shot 10-for-14 on free throws with six rebounds
- Alexandria Walbroehl and Mia Simmons each contributed 11 points, with Walbroehl adding eight rebounds and a game-high three assists
- Gemma Pohalski contributed 12 rebounds which led the team, while adding four steals
How it happened:
- The Golden Eagles took a 9-4 lead in the game's first three and a half minutes, with senior Isabella Sierra scoring five of those points including a three
- Barreiros recorded a three-point play shortly after, followed by a layup for Kelly that increased the lead to 15-6 with 4:53 on the clock
- A layup by freshman Madelyn Barone at the 3:59 mark gave St. Joseph's an 11-point lead (19-8) for their largest lead of the day, then they led by 11 again shortly after before the hosts held a lead of seven (21-14) to finish the quarter
- The Rams scored the first four points of the second quarter to trim the deficit to three (21-18), with all four points scored by Conte
- With SJLI ahead by five (25-20) with about two minutes remaining, the visitors scored the final four points of the quarter to cut the lead to one (25-24) on Pohalski's layup. The Golden Eagles were limited to four points in the quarter
- A layup for Walbroehl 30 seconds into the third quarter gave Farmingdale their first lead since the first possession of the game, as they took a 26-25 lead
- That opening layup was part of six consecutive lead changes, then Twohig made a three to increase the lead to four (34-30) with 7:14 on the clock
- With St. Joseph's in the lead 39-35, Simmons scored five straight points, with her three giving the Rams a 40-39 advantage at the 2:07 mark
- The Golden Eagles scored the final four points of the quarter, as the hosts went into the final frame up 43-40
- FSC began the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run, as Pohalski and Isabella Greenwald made back-to-back layups to put the visitors ahead 46-43 with 4:45 remaining
- A Spina jumper brought SJLI within one (46-45) about a minute later, then the Rams scored six consecutive points to take a seven-point lead (52-45) for their largest lead of the game on a layup for Greenwald at the 1:54 mark
- Spina scored three straight points to cut the lead to four (52-48) with 43 seconds remaining, then after a pair of made free throws for Simmons, Barreiros hit a three to make it a one possession game (54-51) with six seconds on the clock
- Farmingdale State would score two more points on a pair of free throws to wrap up the scoring as the Golden Eagles fall to Farmingdale State, 56-51
Notes:
- St. Joseph's shot 28.3% from the field and 15% from three-point range
- The Rams posted a 25.4% shooting percentage overall and 10.5% from beyond the arc
- Farmingdale State held the advantage in rebounds (54-48) and assists (9-7), while St. Joseph's outscored the Rams 24-22 in the paint
- The Golden Eagles received 27 points from their bench compared to FSC's two
