How it happened:

The Violets got out to an early 6-0 lead in the opening frame and held momentum grabbing a 22-12 advantage before securing the set 25-15.

NYU took their first five-point lead of the second set at 10-5. Later, an ace put the hosts ahead 17-11 before three straight points for the Golden Eagles moved them to within three, 17-14. The Violets hit the 20-point mark with a four-point advantage, 20-16, and held SJLI to just one point down the stretch for the 25-17 victory
