The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team earned a 59-38 win over Sarah Lawrence College in a conference match-up at the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.
Top performers:
- Junior Megan Spina finished with 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles, shooting 7-for-11 from the field with four rebounds and three steals
- Graduate Student Charlotte Twohig added 11 points with six rebounds, four steals, and three assists
- Junior Emma Kelly finished with a game-high seven assists and a team-high eight rebounds, while adding three steals
- Senior Isabella Sierra contributed a game-high six steals
- Gabby Hudson led Sarah Lawrence with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 10-for-14 on free throws with three steals
- Audrey Mattison scored eight points and finished with a team-high four steals, while Kaila Dorch added nine rebounds
How it happened:
- Ariana Spanopoulos made a three for Sarah Lawrence to begin the game, then the hosts went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-3 lead at the 4:24 mark. Spina scored six of those 10 points on three layups
- Senior Felicia Barreiros' three with 1:42 on the clock increased the lead to 13-4, before the Golden Eagles finished the quarter with a 13-6 lead
- Twohig scored the first five points of the second quarter, with her three putting St. Joseph's in the lead 18-6 at the 6:41 mark
- Spina's pair of free throws with 4:05 on the clock increased the lead to 23-9, then Mattison made a free throw and Hudson made two, to make it a 11-point game (23-12)
- Spina scored four points in the final minute, giving SJLI a 27-12 lead heading into the break
- Freshman Madelyn Barone recorded a three-point play two minutes into the third quarter to give the Golden Eagles a 20-point lead (32-12)
- Hudson responded with a three-point play for Sarah Lawrence, before the hosts went back up by 20 (37-17) shortly after on a three for Sierra with 6:16 on the clock
- The hosts led by a 25-point margin twice in the third quarter, then they took their largest lead of the game on a three for Freshman Kallie Eichner with 1:33 remaining in the third, putting the Golden Eagles ahead by 28 (48-20)
- The Gryphons scored the last four points of the third quarter, as SJLI had a 48-24 advantage going into the final frame
- The first five minutes of the fourth quarter featured a 12-3 run for Sarah Lawrence, which trimmed their deficit to 15 (51-36). Hudson scored seven points during the run
- The Golden Eagles responded by scoring eight of the final 10 points scored in the quarter, with Kelly's layup at the 1:20 mark finishing the scoring as St. Joseph's picked up their 12th conference win

- St. Joseph's shot 31.3% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range
- The Gryphons posted an 18.2% shooting percentage overall and 22.2% from beyond the arc
- SJLI held a 47-41 rebounding advantage and a 17-4 advantage in assists
- The Golden Eagles scored 30 points in the paint, while SLC scored six
- The hosts held the Gryphons to six points in each of the first two quarters
