Men's Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 3-0

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team took down St. Joseph's, New York (BK), 3-0, in a Skyline Conference contest in the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 10-6, 8-0 Skyline; St. Joseph's (Bklyn), 2-8, 1-5 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Junior Adam Bender recorded a team-best seven kills while hitting .778

  • Junior Luke MacPherson and freshman Cole Violi totaled six kills apiece

  • Setters Mason Aylward, Dominic Ruggiero, and Will Kropp tossed 15, 10, and nine assists, respectively

  • Ruggiero collected a team-high six digs

  • Jeremias Martinez of of St. Joseph's-BK finished with a match-best 12 kills with six digs

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles hit .444 as a team in a 25-13 win in set one. Luke MacPherson finished with four kills on six attempts with Hank Foglia pitching in three kills and three blocks

  • Set two was played a bit closer with the Golden Eagles holding a slight 12-10 lead. The hosts went on a 12-7 run to go ahead 23-17 before going on to win 25-19. Cole Violi had a set-best six kills on seven chances

  • The teams stayed close in set three before a 4-1 SJLI run gave them a 15-10 lead. The Bears chipped away getting to within two on a couple of occasions, but a service error gave the Golden Eagles the 25-22 win

Notes:

  • As a team, St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit .395 while holding SJBK to .106

  • The Golden Eagles collected 33 digs and put up six total blocks. The Bears finished with 28 digs and two total blocks.

Up next:

St. Joseph's resumes Skyline Conference action when they travel to Sarah Lawrence College for a tri-match with Purchase College on Saturday, March 15th. The Golden Eagles will face the Panthers at 12:00 pm before taking on the Gryphons at 2:00 pm.
